Orp gets picked by  Outside magazine for its essential winter cycling gear. This is the second time we’ve seen this article and holy cow, it’s spring! We don’t care as Orp is really good when it’s super cold or super hot. There’s definitely no frozen clanger issue with Orp and it’s also a beacon light.

SingletrackWorld.com and  Singeltrack Magazine give Orp an awesome review in their latest issue.

Here’s the author’s sum-up:

“A brilliantly designed and manufactured product that works extremely well. Despite my initial misgivings, it has won me over and to be frank, I’m refusing to give it back!”

After a grueling 2 month test in some of the crappiest weather  in the world, that is, in the UK which is not unlike the gray slop we also get hear, I mean, here in Portland, Singletrack rider/writer, Sanny, said Orp was great. They really hit all the points of goodness that we here at Orp Industries try to stress.

Here are a few excerpts:

“…the 70db [76dB] sound does a pretty effective job of alerting other trail and road users to your presence while the “gnnnnrnrrrrhhhhh!” of the 96db sound is more than a match for headphones and on busy city streets when commuting. Combined with the flashing lights, I found the Horn to be particularly effective at dawn and dusk.”

“As for the light itself, running off a rechargeable LI-ion battery, I found it to be bright enough to get me home in the event of my main lights running out of juice. It’s not the brightest light on the market but as a commuter light, I reckon it is plenty bright enough and that it does indeed last the full three hours on constant as promised by the manufacturer.”

And , here’s what he said about th REMORP,

“I’ll be honest and initially wondered who would bother with a cable remote for a light on the bars but once I used it in traffic, I was totally sold on the idea. It may seem like no effort to flip the Horn but being able to do so with your hands firmly on the bars is a golden plated good thing in my book.”

Littlegate Publishing’s Gadgethead magazine included Orp in their latest issue. Pretty comprehensive, super positive  review providing a great explanation of what Orp does.  Thew writer even went out of their way to praise the handiness (pun intended) of the REMORP and the Anti-Dooring mode. They gave it 4.5 out of 5 stars.

They didn’t like Orp’s pictogram instructions – crazy, what’s not to like?!

Cool spotting  style guide and  provider of popular discussion of current events, GQ ,once again picks Orp as a go to gift in its annual Gift Guide. This particular listing  puts Orp in a grouping of  functional stylish gifts for the more sporting of guys.

Of course, Orp being somewhat of a hermaphrodite itself with both horn and light, is gender neutral and works well with men women and those who prefer not to be  so narrowly classified.

 

 

Seven Day Cyclist magazine  gives Orp a thorough  lashing, I mean,  review and Orp comes up looking and sounding good.  Michel Stenning , a co-founder of the site,  contacted us a couple of months ago to see if we’d give him an Orp for review. Of course, we said “yes”, but he’d need to wait until  we had more Orps in stock. Soon enough we sent a couple of Orps and Remorps out to the UK.  Getting the Orps to Michael proved difficult as the post ofice seemed to be teasing us regarding delivery.   The USPS reported it delivered while Michael had nothing.  After Michael and I both pestered the local Post,  the Orps finally appeared.. No question, Brexit has everyone on edge.

Michael  provides a thorough description and  a rigorous review of Orp.

See that intro above?  Holy cow, this guy is tough He told me he would  only report on Orp only after he rode with it for at least 6 weeks. Nervous, schmervous- we have netves of steel, though some of us had to change  pants often.

Here are a couple of excerpts:

“A good downward blast is enough to stop pedestrians from wandering into the road and absent minded drivers thought twice before flinging doors open. Yes, I am talking town centres and at rush hour too.”

“Nonetheless, a three second press brought a young woman taking selfies, while behind the wheel back into the moment. Her filthy look and palpable sense of entitlement prompted a second, more genteel flick of the 76db. Both tones are subtly different and distinguishable against the backdrop of competing noise pollution.”

Conclusion 

​The Orp Smart Horn is a really clever concept, exceptionally well executed. It does both of its jobs very competently and represents excellent value for money. It could be all the front light light some sub/urban riders need. The horn’s function is also superior to any other electronic system I’ve used in the past and the tones appropriate for most contexts, too.

This past weekend, the Columbia Century Challenge ride  happened  and it went super well.

Chris Brannen, one of the key organizers , sent a boatload of  pics and here’ s a few.

The staff running the race all wore the red T shirts ( pictured below) and Chris said the shirts sold out.
